HAPTIC – the perception of the world via by touch is encapsulated in the works of Lizzie Hall and Andréa Berthet. The textured surfaces of Lizzie Hall’s paintings reveal the many layers that are built up over time to create her deeply symbolic works. Hall’s paintings reference the Greek myth of Charon ferrying the dead to the underworld. While her works emerge from personal references, they communicate universal experiences and stories that connect us all. The tactile materiality of her paintings resonates with the inky finger impressions imbedded in Andréa Berthet’s glass sculpture 'Unsaid' 2024. Berthet uses glass to explore how personal connections and touch can be expressed through objects. The many layers of self are exposed through her delicate, yet weighty sculptures that have been created by carving into many smooth layers of transparent and opaque glass.
